Summary:
Moderately riding intensive tour traverses the wild untamed Eastern Coast of Southern Africa as well as the legendary Sani Pass in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. |
The East coast of South Africa is home to some of the most spectacular coastline in the world. One of the very few waterfalls that falls directly into the see is in this area. The cliffs and ruggedness of the coastline will blow your mind as will the size of the surf that crashes onto the rocks. Despite the ruggedness of the coastline, the actual riding is out of this world - the hills are covered in lush grass, mowed short by the grazing cows. I know you've all fantasized about throwing big roosts on an immaculate golf course putting green - well this experience is about the same and it lasts for hundreds of miles - can you spell T-R-A-C-T-I-O-N?

Day 1
You will be met at the Durban International airport in Durban South Africa by your friendly AOT staff and enjoy a scenic drive down the Natal South Coast past some of the best surfing breaks in the world, to the quaint beach side Umngazi River Bungalows, (near Port St Johns in Transkei) (see website @ www.umngazi.co.za)Here you will meet with the other riders and meet your tour leaders and hosts. The reception dinner will be a traditional South African Braaivleis (BBQ). Overnight accommodation is in comfortable traditional African Thatched Chalets.

Day 2
Your first day in the saddle will be a leisurely ride to Port St Johns through winding trails over the hills overlooking the Indian Ocean. We will visit the the infamous Blowhole, have an exotic local concoction at the 'Millennium Bar', nothing like you would expect but worth the experience - something that you will tell all your riding friends about back home.
Day 3
Jet lag will be creeping in so will take an easy day on Day Three, relaxing and enjoying all the varied facilities available at the Umngazi resort. The bikes will be primed and ready to go, so if you're up to it we can squeeze in an optional sunset ride along the beach.

Day 4
Day four starts with a healthy scrumptious breakfast on the deck overlooking the sea. We head out for an early ride, catch a lift on a dilapidated ferry across a river spanning a deep gorge, and ride out on the other side to explore the expansive rural area completely devoid of roads and fences, with hill after hill and valley after valley. On these amazing beaches you will get to practice your speedway and 1/4-mile sideways drifting and sliding to your hearts content. And best of all, somebody else will clean the sand out of your bike!

Day 5
We waken early to a hearty breakfast before our departure from Umngazi to the foothills of the Maluti mountains that surround the Kingdom of Lesotho. At the base of the legendary Sani Pass, we settle in for the night at the world-renowned Sani Pass Hotel. We enjoy a spectacular full course dinner followed by a luxurious night in traditional African Thatched Chalets.
Day 6
After a relaxing night and traditional Lesotho breakfast, we head out on the Roof of Africa Trail. We cross the border into the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Local Basotho cattle and goat herders who spend their entire life at high altitude inhabit this area. You will never forget your first passage up the legendary Sani Pass, which follows the deep valley incised by the Mkhomazana River to breast the summit 10,000ft, home to the "Highest Pub in Africa". We ride on the Plateau over some of the rockiest terrain you will ever find, and journey down in the afternoon to overnight at the Sani Pass Hotel.

Day 7
We will take a lazy start to Day Seven - feel free to play golf, go fly fishing or take a leisurely hike, horse ride or laze by the pool. In the late morning we depart for the amazing Tala Game Reserve, where you will be staying the night in the company of the famous African wildlife. Relax at pool and enjoy game drive in shaded Land Rovers, or even take a hike through the jungle accompanied by an armed and informative game ranger. That night enjoy a traditional South African South African Braaivleis (BBQ) around the camp fire all the while surrounded by the sounds of the wild!
Day 8
This is a very special day - not only is it your last riding day, but you get to do it with a large contingent of local die-hard dirt bikers from the Durban area. These hard core dirt bikers never miss an opportunity to ride the incredible Umgeni Valley, also known as the Valley of a Thousand Hills. This spectacular and lush countryside, home to the Zulu nation, provides outstanding riding on narrow trails and cattle paths, fast sweeping dirt roads, river crossings, and lots of ascents and descents. We stop for lunch in a famous German restaurant in the quaint farming town of Wartburg. Overnight back in Tala game reserve
